Welcome To The Farrell Family Foundation

"One of the more important gifts I could instill in my children is the knowledge that a true sense of satisfaction and fulfillment is achieved through giving back to the community. Giving is a responsibility, and should be done thoughtfully and carefully.

We see our gift giving as an investment upon which we look for a return; a return that is a quantifiable improvement in society.

In other words, we don't give based on needs; we invest in expected outcomes." - Dr Peter C. Farrell

Mission Statement

To contribute to the betterment of society through the support of education, health, human welfare and the arts.

An integral role of contributions will be to promote and encourage self-reliance, responsibility and accountability.

On 25 September 2025, UNSW Sydney's Roundhouse came alive for the 25th anniversary of the Peter Farrell Cup (PFC), UNSW’s flagship student entrepreneurship competition.

The PFC has been at the heart of UNSW’s entrepreneurial ecosystem since 2001. Named after Dr Peter Farrell AM, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and visionary supporter of UNSW innovation, the competition gives students the chance to turn bold ideas into real ventures. Each year, multidisciplinary teams of students work through workshops and mentoring to refine their ideas. The Top Ten finalists are then chosen to pitch live on stage to industry judges, faculty leaders, and a cheering crowd.

For 25 years, the PFC has been more than a pitch competition. It is a launchpad. Alumni have gone on to found companies, secure investments, and create impact in sectors from health and climate to advanced engineering. This 25th anniversary year set a new benchmark for student entrepreneurship at UNSW: 290 applications were received, representing 602 students in total (up from 113 applications / 258 students in 2024).

"Since our child was diagnosed with cancer our family has been in emotional and financial turmoil. I don't think we could have made it through the ordeal without the support of the Red Kite social worker program, which the Farrell Family Foundation has generously supported."
